SENEGAL MUSEUM &
ART EDUCATION CENTER
MAY 2021 - JULY 2021
MASS DESIGN GROUP
Sine Ngayène , Kaolack, Senegal
Competition Submitted
9,000 ft²
For this competition, I was a design lead from concept development to final board submission. I worked closely with the manager to co-lead 3D modeling, rendering, board layout, as well as copy editing of the boards’ text and script for the video submission. I also coordinated with the local Senegalese architect and videographer for the competition deliverables.
Located near the majestic Sine Nygayene stone megalith site, the center takes inspiration from the form and artistic expression of the stone megaliths, continuing this ancient tradition of paying respect through the act of marking to create a new center that celebrates memory, art and community.
Through the programmatic arrangement of the spaces, the center will not only provide an immersive experience for the visitors to discover and connect with the past and present Senegalese art but will also create a welcoming and inclusive environment for the local community to come together to celebrate the future direction of artistic expression.
Constructed of laterite, the building will be harmonious with the landscape, having a very low environmental footprint and celebrating the human handprint of those who made it, further improving socio-economic, educational and environmental impacts in the region.
